Bengaluru, May 28 -- In an emotional and politically significant farewell address, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday announced that he had submitted his resignation to the Governor's office following directions from the Congress high command, but notably avoided naming Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar or any other leader as his successor.

Speaking to reporters after visiting Raj Bhavan, Siddaramaiah said Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was out of station and his resignation letter had been handed over to the Governor's Secretary.
