Bengaluru, Aug. 15 -- Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress MLA Siddaramaiah on Saturday pushed back against speculation that he had gone politically "silent," saying he was deliberately speaking less after stepping down as Chief Minister as he no longer carried the responsibility of running the State.

"I am not silent. I am not speaking much. I am now only an MLA. When I was Chief Minister, I had the responsibility of the State. Now I do not have that responsibility," Siddaramaiah told reporters here.

His remarks came amid growing political speculation over his relatively low-key public presence, particularly in the backdrop of discussions over the Congress government, Cabinet representation and the party's political direction.
