Lucknow, May 7 -- union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, clearly stated that increasing production alone will no longer suffice.

"To establish India's strong presence in the global fruit market, serious work will be required on quality, shelf life, processing, logistics, and export standards," he stressed.

Speaking at "Fruit Horizon 2026" held at the ICAR-Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in Lucknow on Thursday, the union minister emphasized that farming cannot be confined to the farm; the need of the hour is to strengthen the entire value chain, from production to processing, marketing, and export.
