Bengaluru, May 15 -- A fresh political storm erupted in Karnataka on Friday as supporters of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar openly projected him as the "Next Chief Minister" during his birthday celebrations, intensifying speculation over a possible power struggle within the ruling Congress.

Birthday events held across Bengaluru, Mysuru, Belagavi and several other districts turned overtly political, with giant banners, cut-outs and cakes carrying slogans such as "Next CM DK Boss" dominating the celebrations.

The aggressive public messaging has once again brought the unresolved leadership question in Karnataka Congress into sharp focus, nearly three years after the party returned to power under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
