Bengaluru, June 19 -- Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday adopted a cautious stance after Tamil Nadu intensified its opposition to the Mekedatu project, with the state Assembly passing a unanimous resolution against the proposed dam across the Cauvery river.

The development has once again sharpened tensions between the two Cauvery basin states, with Tamil Nadu mounting a consolidated political front, urging the Centre to deny all clearances for the project, including technical and environmental approvals.

Responding to the resolution, Shivakumar said he would first examine the details before making any detailed comment, signalling a measured response from Karnataka amid rising political heat.
