Shimla, Nov. 4 -- The controversy surrounding the extension of the Shimla Mayor and Deputy Mayor's term from two and a half years to five years has now taken a decisive legal turn, with the matter reaching the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the state government's ordinance on the matter was heard on Tuesday, following which the High Court issued notices to the State Government, the State Election Commission, the Director of the Urban Development Department, and the Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC).
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Jiyalal Bhardwaj directed all respondents to file their replies before the next hearing, scheduled for November 11.
