Shimla, April 28 -- Marking a significant milestone in sustainable development and rural self-reliance, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday inaugurated a 500 KW solar power project at Dharech Gram Panchayat in Kasumpti Assembly Constituency of Shimla district, making it the first 'Green Panchayat' in the state.
The Chief Minister termed the initiative a significant step by the present state government towards promoting clean energy and strengthening the rural economy. Constructed at an approximate cost of Rs. 1.94 crore, the solar power project was commissioned in January 2025 and was successfully connected to the electricity grid on March 30, 2026.
