Shillong, Nov. 26 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said the Shillong airport's runway expansion is expected to be completed by March 2027.
Sangma said, the cabinet has given its approval to purchase land from local communities in Umroi, which would be exchanged with the defence authorities.
"We have given a formal approval to go ahead for this because it is required for the expansion of the Shillong Airport so that larger flights can land," he told reporters after a cabinet meeting held at the iconic Ward's lake here.
The runway would require getting land from the defence estate, which has to be compensated by allotting land to the defence establishment elsewhere.
