Thiruvananthapuram, June 24 -- Kerala reported 15 fresh cases of Shigella infection from five districts, taking the total number of infections reported in June to 165, while the death toll linked to the disease this month stands at six, according to the Health Department on Wednesday.
Of the 15 new cases, Kozhikode accounted for eight, followed by Malappuram (3), Wayanad (2), and Kannur and Kollam with one case each. Since the beginning of 2026, the state has confirmed 241 Shigella infections.
Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Wayanad continued to be the worst-affected districts in June. Outbreaks have been officially declared in Kozhikode (57 cases), Wayanad (22), Thrissur (12) and Alappuzha (3).
