Ukhrul (Imphal), March 26 -- Shangshak Day was solemnly commemorated on Thursday to honour the legacy of one of the most significant battles of the Second World War.
The observance was organised by the Assam Rifles in collaboration with troops of the 4 Maratha Light Infantry and members of the local community.
The commemoration featured a wreath-laying ceremony at the Shangshak War Memorial, where tributes were paid to soldiers and civilians who resisted advancing Japanese forces in 1944.
Around 30 security personnel and village elders jointly laid wreaths, followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of those who made the supreme sacrifice.
