Gadchiroli, Feb. 7 -- Security forces achieved a major breakthrough against naxalism in Gadchiroli district, where seven naxalites, including senior leader Prabhakaran, were killed in a police operation, officials said on Saturday.
Police said the bodies of three naxalites were recovered on Thursday night, while four more bodies were recovered from the area on Friday. Among the killed naxalites, four were men and three women.
The operation was carried out by the elite C-60 commandos of the Gadchiroli Police in a dense forest area after a three-day search.
According to officials, this was one of the most challenging operations conducted in the region due to the difficult terrain and heavy exchange of fire.
