Kolkata, Oct. 24 -- Senior resident doctors at the state-run Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical College and Hospital in Uluberia, Howrah, launched a five-hour pen-down strike today to protest the alleged assault on a junior woman doctor earlier this week by a group led by a police home guard.

The strike began at 9 am in front of the hospital superintendent's office, with protesting doctors demanding better safety and security for medical staff, particularly women, and the creation of a workplace free from threats and intimidation.
