Mumbai, July 10 -- Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre (Eknath Shinde group) accused of assaulting doctors and medical staff at Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation's Shastri Nagar Hospital in Thane district on July 6, was remanded on Friday to police custody for three days.

The party has meanwhile, initiated disciplinary proceedings and served him a showcause notice.

Mhatre was produced in court this afternoon under heavy police escort, a day after the court rejected the police's request for his appearance via video conferencing citing health issues.

Mahatre was arrested on July 8 in connection with the FIR registered at Vishnunagar police station. Three of his associates were arrested a day earlier.
