Aichi-Nagoya, Sept. 24 -- Seema Kumari ended India's 16-year wait for a women's 10,000m medal at the Asian Games, producing a determined run to clinch bronze in a gruelling final here on Thursday.
Seema clocked 32:50.05 to secure third place, staying firmly in medal contention until the closing stages before the experienced front-runners pulled away.
Bahrain's Olympic champion Winfred Yavi surged clear late in the race to take gold in 32:39.18, while Japan's Nozomi Tanaka finished second in 32:41.54.
Seema refused to surrender her position as the race entered its decisive phase and held on for a landmark bronze, becoming the first Indian woman in 16 years to stand on the Asian Games podium in the 10,000m.
