Balrampur, July 31 -- In view of the deteriorating situation following the massive communal violence over the playing of devotional songs during the Kanwar Yatra in Nepal, joint patrols by the SSB and civilian police have been intensified along the 243-km of open borders in Uttar Pradesh.

Security has been enhanced in Bahraich, Balrampur, and Shravasti districts of the Devipatan division, bordering Nepal, due to the possibility of any disturbance in the India-Nepal border areas.

However, due to the violence the markets in both sides of the border have closed down and the area looked deserted.
