Lucknow, July 29 -- Uttar Pradesh will merge government council schools with low student enrolment with nearby schools and use vacant school buildings to run pre-primary classes for the first time, state Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Singh said the government had taken several measures to improve the quality of school education. According to him, for the first time in Uttar Pradesh, a system of pre-primary education is being introduced, which will provide a better educational environment for children at the primary level.
