Chandigarh, July 10 -- In a significant move aimed at improving the safety of schoolchildren and easing traffic congestion around educational institutions, the District Road Safety Committee of Chandigarh has directed all schools to ensure that students are picked up and dropped off within school campuses instead of on public roads.
The advisory, issued by the District Magistrate-cum-Chairman of the District Road Safety Committee, also asks schools to actively promote car-pooling among students and parents to reduce the number of vehicles arriving at school gates during peak hours.
