New Delhi, Aug. 14 -- The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Madras High Court's order quashing a Tamil Nadu government order providing compassionate appointments to the families of victims of the Karur stampede tragedy.
A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and K Vinod Chandran issued notice on the plea filed by the state government and others challenging the High Court judgment and passed an interim stay on its operation.
Senior Advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Tamil Nadu, defended the State's decision to provide compassionate appointments to Karur stampede victims' families under Article 162.
Singhvi questioned the Madras High Court's interference, noting that the government's policy had not been challenged....
