New Delhi, Oct. 27 -- The Supreme Court today sought responses from the Madhya Pradesh government and the state High Court registry on a plea challenging the refusal to enhance the retirement age of judicial officers from 60 to 61 years, despite earlier directions from the apex court permitting such an increase.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran issued notices while hearing a petition filed by the Madhya Pradesh Judges Association.
The petition challenges an administrative decision of the Madhya Pradesh High Court declining to increase the retirement age of district judges, which the Association claims violates the Supreme Court's order dated May 26, 2025.
