New Delhi, April 2 -- In an unusual development, the Supreme Court on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to the top order of West Bengal administration, including Chief Secreatary, Home Secretary, and Director General of Poilce, and came down heavily on the state over the attack and gherao of judges engaged in the SIR (voter list revision) process in Malda.
Calling the situation "deeply alarming," the bench observed that it had "never seen such extreme political polarisation" in a state like West Bengal and warned that even compliance with court orders was being viewed through a political lens.
