New Delhi, Oct. 10 -- The Supreme Court today granted the union Government four weeks to file its response on a batch of applications seeking directions for the time-bound restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran passed the order while hearing an application filed in the Article 370 case.
Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for the applicant, reminded the Court that a "solemn statement" had been made earlier by the Centre promising early restoration of statehood.
"Please enforce the undertaking within a reasonable time period," Sankaranarayanan urged.
