Agartala, Feb. 12 -- The Supreme Court has instructed the Tripura State Election Commission to hold the long-overdue Village Committee (VC) elections concurrently with the forthcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
ADC's ruling TIPRA Motha Party approached the Supreme Court on the stalled VC elections in October last year. Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman stated that the apex court's ruling signifies a crucial turning point for local self-governance in tribal regions, effectively ending nearly ten years of delays in conducting VC elections.
