New Delhi, Sept. 22 -- The Supreme Court today emphasised the need for evolving a performance evaluation mechanism for High Court judges, observing that while some judges work tirelessly to dispose of matters expeditiously, others fail to deliver judgments with similar efficiency.

A Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N.K. Singh noted that judges must be guided by broad parameters to meet the public's legitimate expectations, though without micromanagement. "Our intention is not to act as a school principal and monitor everything, but there should be broad guidelines.

"Judges should know what the task before them is. This is the legitimateexpectation of the public at large from our institution," the Bench observed.
