Varanasi, Aug. 4 -- union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Tuesday said that Sarnath's inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List will significantly increase the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting the site, and it is a matter of pride for the Buddhist community worldwide.
Shekhawat visited Sarnath and inspected the historical monuments and the stupa complex.
He was accompanied by Vishal V. Sharma, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO.
Ambassador Sharma held a meeting with officials from the Uttar Pradesh government and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Sarnath.
