Tokyo, Oct. 21 -- Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Sanae Takaichi made history in the country's political sphere on Tuesday by becoming the country's first female Prime Minister.
A staunch conservative, Takaichi has been nicknamed the "Iron Lady" due to her hardline stance and admiration of the former UK PM Margaret Thatcher, and has modelled her politics on the late PM Shinzo Abe, under whom she rose to prominence.
The 64-year-old veteran politician, who has represented a constituency in Nara Prefecture for nearly three decades, previously served as Minister for Economic Security and Internal Affairs.
