Kolkata, July 16 -- Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya on Thursday used the ceremonial Khuti Puja at College Square to firmly reject any attempt by his party leaders to "capture" Durga Puja committees.
Across the city and districts Rath Yatra marked the traditional beginning of Bengal's biggest festive season with major community pujas across the city organising Khuti Pujas.
Khuti Puja, is regarded as the ceremonial beginning of Durga Puja preparations and marks the moment when organisers formally launch work for the pujas.
The ritual centres on the worship of a sacred wooden pole (khuti), symbolising the start of pandal construction.
