Mumbai, Sept. 27 -- The Sambhaji Brigade today welcomed the Maharashtra government's decision to declare drought in 265 of the state's 358 talukas and urged the government to ensure that financial assistance reaches farmers at the earliest.
The state government declared the drought following rainfall deficiency and prolonged dry spells, covering around 74 per cent of Maharashtra.
Sambhaji Brigade state spokesperson Advocate Santosh Shinde said that the drought declaration would have little meaning unless financial assistance was actually credited to the accounts of distressed farmers.
