Chennai, May 31 -- Keeping the iconic Saint Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar in saffron robes once again at the Lok Bhavan with Governor RV Arlekar paying floral tributes has inflamed passions, inviting condemnation from the Tamil Nadu government, parties supporting it and also the opposition DMK.

While the Tamil Nadu government officially celebrates Thiruvalluvar Day as part of the Pongal festival, the Lok Bhavan on Saturday organised the birth anniversary of the great poet as per the Sanskritised Tamil calendar and zodiacal star - Vaikasi Anusham. The Governor is following the precedent set up by his predecessor, RN Ravi.
