Moscow, Aug. 29 -- The first case of imported chikungunya virus has been detected in Russia, and the patient, who came to Moscow from Sri Lanka, has been hospitalized, Russian health and consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said Friday.
"The first imported case of chikungunya fever has been detected in Russia this year ... The patient is currently hospitalized in a moderate condition," the watchdog's press service told reporters.
Rospotrebnadzor had previously warned about the risk of importing the virus from other countries and was prepared for this situation, the press service said.
