New Delhi, May 15 -- The Indian rupee breached the 96-mark against the US dollar on Friday, pressured by rising crude oil prices, escalating US-Iran tensions and continued strengthening of the American currency in global markets.

The domestic currency extended its depreciation streak, opening weaker at 95.71 against the greenback. At around 15:00 IST, the rupee slipped further to 96.05 against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, Brent crude prices also surged sharply amid fears of supply disruptions linked to the worsening geopolitical situation in West Asia. Brent crude was trading higher by 3.33 per cent at 109.24 dollars per barrel in international markets.
