Kolkata, July 3 -- The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters in Kolkata on Friday proposed the induction of former Trinamool Congress councillor and borough chairperson Rehana Khatun, triggering strong protests from a section of party workers.
The situation turned chaotic as agitating workers allegedly hurled eggs inside the party office and engaged in heated arguments with supporters of Khatun, leading to jostling and near scuffles before senior leaders intervened to restore order. According to party sources, Khatun, the former councillor of Ward No. 44 under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, arrived at the PCC headquarters on Friday to formally join the Congress.
