New Delhi, May 26 -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday delivered a sharp warning over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, calling any attempt to impose tolls on the crucial maritime route "unlawful, illegal, unsustainable and unacceptable" amid ongoing tensions involving Iran.

Speaking to reporters aboard his flight to New Delhi ahead of the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Rubio asserted that the strategic waterway must remain open and free for global navigation, while signalling growing international opposition to Iran's reported stance on maritime tolls.
