Moradabad, Feb. 28 -- In a major crackdown on tax fraud in Moradabad, the Cyber Crime Cell and Special Investigation Team (SIT) have busted a large GST evasion syndicate involving fake billing worth nearly Rs 200 crore. The police arrested the alleged kingpin, Puneet, from Agra on Saturday.
According to SP Crime Subhash Chandra Gangwar, who disclosed the case at the Police Lines, the accused created dozens of shell firms on paper to fraudulently claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) without any actual movement of goods. By showing bogus transactions running into crores, he allegedly caused significant losses to the government exchequer.
