Bhubaneswar, Oct. 1 -- Medicines valued at Rs 168 crore expired in Odisha over nearly six years due to poor inventory management and procurement of drugs with shorter shelf-life, including COVID-19 medicines worth over Rs 47 crore that remained largely unused, a CAG audit has found.
The findings have come to light from a compliance audit of drug procurement by the Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL) between April 2019 and January 2025.
The audit found that 3,839 of the 4,550 vials of Casirivimab and Imdevimab-120 mg/ml procured during the COVID-19 pandemic expired unused. The expired stock, accounting for 84 per cent of the procurement, was valued at Rs 42.21 crore.
