Kakinada, July 12 -- Under the national handlooms development program, a Rs 15 crore scheme will be implemented shortly in Uppada Kothapalli mandal.

Disclosing this to media persons here today, the Kakinada MP Udaya Srinivas said the central government would bear Rs 12 crore of the Rs 15 crore, and the balance of Rs 3 crore is the state government's share.

It helps to develop the Uppada handlooms to the international standards and also ensure economic support to the 700 handloom weavers depending upon the handlooms sector' the MP added.

Uday Srinivas further said that he met the Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh several times in Delhi and represented him on the early materialisation of the scheme.
