Kolkata, June 11 -- A massive cache of cash amounting to Rs 1.77 crore was recovered from a private English-medium school in West Bengal's North 24-Parganas district during a late-night search operation, fuelling a political storm and prompting a police investigation into the source of the money, police said on Thursday.
The search in the school located in the Kanchrapara area began on Wednesday night and continued till around 4 a.m. on Thursday.
Following inconsistencies allegedly detected during questioning, police have detained the school's cashier, Abhik Nath, and assistant accountant, Sayan Ghosh, for further interrogation.
