Aizawl, Oct. 29 -- Vast stretches of farmland across Mizoram have been ravaged by a fresh wave of rodent attacks triggered by Thingtam- the gregarious flowering of Bambusa tulda, a bamboo species locally known as Rawthing. State officials said at least 2,331.154 hectares of paddy and vegetable fields have been completely destroyed, with thousands of families facing total crop loss.
According to data from the state Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department, the infestation has spread across all 11 districts, affecting 7,634.754 hectares of farmland in around 170 villages.
