Kolkata, July 11 -- An unprecedented political confrontation is brewing in West Bengal between the two Trinamool Congress factions ahead of the July 21 Martyrs' Day observance, with the rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee announcing a parallel rally at Mayo Road even as Mamata Banerjee's TMC l has moved the Calcutta High Court seeking permission to hold its traditional gathering at Esplanade.

Following a strategy meeting on Saturday, the Ritabrata camp announced that it had secured permission to hold its rally at the base of the Gandhi statue on Mayo Road on July 21.

"We have got permission to organise a rally at Mayo Road on July 21. We will follow the rules laid down by the police," Ritabrata said after the meeting.
