Bengaluru, June 22 -- Senior journalist and Vishwavani editor-in-chief Vishweshwar Bhat on Monday delivered a sharp critique of contemporary political culture, lamenting that parties are increasingly producing "speakers, not writers" and warning that social media-driven discourse is eroding intellectual engagement in public life.

Speaking at the release of BJP leader Prakash Shesharaghavacharya's book "Vikas Path" in Bengaluru, Bhat said the tradition of politicians being thinkers, writers and public intellectuals had weakened significantly across party lines.

"Today, the number of people who speak in political parties is very high, but the number who write is extremely low. Everyone has become a Facebook writer," Bhat remarked.
