Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 2 -- The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has directed the Railways to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation to a woman passenger who was allegedly forced to get off a train at midnight despite having a reserved ticket and was subsequently arrested and released on bail for travelling without a ticket.
Human Rights Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas said the Railways had violated Sections 137 and 139 of the Railways Act by removing the woman, who was travelling alone, from the train at night. The Commission held that the incident also violated her constitutional and human right to live with dignity.
