Solapur, July 6 -- Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh emphasised the importance of giving due respect and recognition to the mother tongues of individual states.

He stated, "Primary education must be conducted in the state's mother tongue. While we accept Hindi as the national language, equal importance must be given to regional languages,"

Singh, who is visiting Pandharpur for the Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage for the past 33 years, offered prayers at the Tulja Bhavani temple in Tuljapur before heading towards Pandharpur.
