Hyderabad, Sept. 18 -- union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday called for region-specific agricultural planning and closer Centre-State coordination, saying the diverse geographical and climatic conditions across states make a common farming strategy for the entire country impractical.

Addressing the Southern Regional Agriculture Conference here, Chouhan said different states have varying agro-climatic zones, soil conditions, water availability and resources, requiring farming strategies tailored to their specific needs.

"It is not possible to sit at one place for a day and prepare a common Rabi or Kharif plan for the entire country," he said.
