Ranchi, Dec. 28 -- A severe cold wave continues to affect several districts of Jharkhand, with the state capital Ranchi recording a minimum temperature of 2.5 degrees celsius, nearly four degrees below normal.

The sharp dip in temperature has been attributed to cold north-westerly winds sweeping across the region.

According to a report issued by the India Meteorological Department, minimum temperatures in 14 districts of the state have fallen below 10 degrees Celsius, indicating cold wave conditions. After Ranchi, the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at the automated weather station in Gumla at 2.9 degrees Celsius.
