Kolkata, March 26 -- Tension prevailed at the University of Calcutta on Thursday after permission was denied for holding Ram Navami celebrations inside the campus, prompting organisers to conduct the puja outside the main gate under tight security.

From the morning, a charged atmosphere was witnessed within the campus as ABVP-supported students pressed for permission to organise the festival and take out a procession. University authorities, however, declined both requests, citing existing norms that allow only Saraswati Puja within the campus premises.

As the day progressed, organisers brought an idol of Lord Ram and set it up outside the university gate. With no approval forthcoming, the puja was eventually conducted outside the campus....
