Mumbai, July 14 -- Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao's gritty crime drama 'Maalik' has garnered over Rs 14 crore at the Indian box office in its opening weekend, marking a promising start for the period gangster saga.
Set in 1980s Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh, 'Maalik' traces the dramatic rise of a common man as he transforms into a feared gangster.
The film was released theatrically on July 11 and has received mixed response from critics and audiences alike.
According to the report of trade website Sacnilk, 'Maalik' opened with Rs 3.75 crore on the first day, with Rs 5.25 crore on the second day, and early estimates suggest Rs 5.09 crore on day three, culminating in total of Rs 14.25 crore for its first first weekend in India.
