Jaipur, March 10 -- The Rajasthan Assembly today evening passed the Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill-2026 by a voice vote that has done away eligibility norm of two children ceiling for contestants to contest elections to the rural local bodies.
The Bill, moved for discussion and passage in the House by the Panchayat Raj Minister Madan Dilawar, also removed the minimum educational qualification norm for aspiring contestants. Now just a literate candidate would be eligible to fight polls.
The state government has decided to do away with the clauses that put an upper ceiling of two children as an eligibility criterion in the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Act, 1994.
