Shimla, Sept. 5 -- The Unesco World Heritage Kalka-Shimla Railway has been hit hard once more after incessant rain triggered fresh collapses and cracks along the track near Pattamod in Himachal Pradesh.

The fragile mountain railway, which has faced persistent threats from natural calamities in recent years, has now been rendered unsafe for train movement.

According to officials, several cracks have appeared around the track near Pattamod, where construction of the Kalka-Shimla National Highway-5 has increased the vulnerability of the heritage line.

Local sources said that water from culverts has been diverted towards the track, causing debris and boulders to accumulate.
