New Delhi, Feb. 1 -- The union Budget for 2026-27 has delivered an unprecedented boost to the railway sector, with the Ministry of Railways receiving a record capital expenditure allocation of Rs 2,93,030 crore, the highest ever for the national transporter.

The massive outlay highlights the government's continuing priority on expanding rail infrastructure, strengthening safety systems, and accelerating modernisation across the country's rail network.

Overall funding for the Railways has also seen a notable rise. According to Budget documents, the ministry's total allocation has increased to Rs 2.81 lakh crore this year, compared to Rs 2.55 lakh crore in the previous financial year.
