Mumbai, Nov. 21 -- Samajwadi Party MLA Raees Shaikh on Thursday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party for distributing Urdu-language pamphlets during election campaigning in Maharashtra, accusing the party of resorting to the language only when seeking votes while otherwise indulging in divisive politics.
His remarks come amid intensified political activity for local body elections.
Shaikh said although the BJP has circulated Urdu pamphlets in various parts of the state, those distributed in the Oran area of Raigad district have drawn particular attention. He stated that the BJP has "finally realised that Urdu is not linked to any one religion," but questioned the party's consistency in its stance toward the language.
