Rae Bareli, Aug. 12 -- More than 160 years after his resistance became part of Awadh's folk memory, 1857-era rebel leader Rana Beni Madhav Baksh Singh is set to get a permanent public memorial in Rae Bareli, with the first phase of the Rs 36-crore project at Salon nearing completion.

Remembered across Awadh through the folk refrain "Awadh ma Rana bhayo mardana", Rana Beni Madhav Baksh Singh is being commemorated through a complex that will seek to take his story beyond oral tradition and present it to a wider audience through historical interpretation, cultural programmes and an immersive light-and-sound presentation.
